Dr. Aglaia Cardona

Veterinarian

Dr. Aglaia Cardona grew up in North Hollywood, a suburb of Los Angeles, where she was keenly interested in riding horses, as well as the health and welfare of her and the neighbors’ pets. She would read her mother’s medical textbooks and evaluate paramecium under her microscope with equal fascination. By college, she realized that veterinary medicine was her calling.

Dr. Cardona completed her BA degree in Biology at UCLA. She was fortunate enough to work in the Terasaki Lab doing cancer research, and then in the surgery lab where she participated in kidney transplantation research. She graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1986, then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Medical Center in New York City. She then pursued a residency in Oncology at UC Davis. She subsequently taught in 3 different veterinary intern programs while continuing to practice Oncology. Later, she pursued another of her interests, Emergency Medicine.

Now in her 36th year of her varied veterinary career, she finds general medicine to be extremely rewarding. Loving cats and dogs equally, her special interests include feline medicine, and addressing the special needs and welfare of cats. She is also interested in dermatology.

Extracurricular activities: Skiing, surfing, gardening, and spending time with her three cats, Biggy Small, Penuín, and Thomas, and her Labrador, Arthur.
